A special concert is in the offing on November 20 when Bach's Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas 1 to 3) will be performed by Baroque 2000 and the choir and soloists of the UKZN Opera School (OSCA).
On the podium will be the visiting young French conductor Nicolas Simon, a noted exponent of the Baroque repertoire whose many engagements have included a project last month with the London Symphony Orchestra.
This is a rare chance to hear one of the very greatest works of the Baroque era and is a special large scale production of the orchestra's 2011 season. The event is kindly sponsored by IFAS (Institut Français en Afrique du Sud – French Institute in South Africa).
The concert takes place at the Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill, on November 20 at 15h00. Doors open at 14h30. Tickets R90 and there is plenty of free and safe parking. Enquiries to Michel on 031 312 5539 or email: sursouth@iafrica.com
