JEWELS OF THE EARTH

("Madagascar Sentinels" by Shona Domeris of East Coast Quilters' Guild)

The South African Quilters' Guild 7th National Travelling Exhibition (2011-2012) is titled Jewels of the Earth and is currently being hosted by MACS in Pietermaritzburg.

"The South African Quilters' Guild proudly showcases the diversity of quilting in South Africa and the theme of the exhibition inspired quilters to create a body of work of which the Guild is very proud.

Jewels Of The Earth showcases a selection of quilts, diverse in design and rich in the use of colour, fibre and thread. The different techniques used offer an example of the variety found in South African quilt-making: from the popular traditional to the real works of art. One can only admire the creativeness of the work on display. The exhibition opened this year in March in George and will travel throughout South Africa for 18 months," says President of the South African Quilters' Guild, Jeanette Botha.

Jewels Of The Earth runs until December 21 at MACS at 23 Haldane Road, Pelham, Pietermaritzburg. Opening hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 08h00 to 16h00, Thursdays 08h00 to 12noon and Saturdays 08h00 to 14h00. More information on 033 386 6500.
