M-NET STARS

M-Net Stars on Channel 105 offers a good line-up of movies for February:

February 12 at 19h30: Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986) Directed by Paul Mazursky, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Bette Midler. Barbara and Dave Whiteman make up a nouveau riche Beverly Hills couple whose entire household is turned upside down with one act of uncharacteristic generosity. The Whiteman household is far from functional with an unsatisfying marriage, a son who communicates only through video footage, a daughter who has escaped to a faraway college, a doggy psychiatrist for their neurotic dog, and a constant stream of gurus for Barbara, who's trying to find inner peace.

February 13 at 19h30: John Grisham's The Rainmaker (1997) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Matt Damon and Danny DeVito. A young law student takes on a case against the insurance industry when an indigent family's son dies after being denied medical care.

February 14 at 19h30: Ghost (1990) Directed by Jerry Zucker, starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. After he's murdered, a young executive attempts to communicate with his girlfriend through a phony psychic.

February 15 at 19:30: To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday (1996) Directed by Michael Pressman, starring Peter Gallagher and Michelle Pfeiffer. Labour Day weekend marks a family reunion for David Lewis and his teenage daughter Rachel along with his sister-in-law Esther and brother-in-law Paul. It also marks the anniversary of David's wife Gillian's death. As the family celebrates the weekend, relationships are re-examined and truths are revealed.

February 16 at 19h30: The Mirror Has Two Faces (1997) Directed by Barbra Streisand who also stars with Jeff Bridges. Rose Morgan teaches a course in Romantic Literature but doesn't have any romance in her own life. Gregory Larkin, who teaches mathematics at the same university, has been hurt by passionate relationships and longs for a sexless union based on friendship and respect with someone he's not sexually attracted to. Through an act of deception typical of Rose's near-amoral sister, Greg and Rose meet.

February 19 at 19h30: Far And Away (1992) Directed by Ron Howard, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. A turn-of-the-century story of two young Irish immigrants - he poor and she rich – who flee their homeland to settle in the American West.

February 20 at 19h30: Captain Ron (1992) Directed by Thom Eberhardt , starring Kurt Russell and Martin Short. The story of one family's adventure on an old rickety boat under the command of a crazed captain.

February 21 at 19h30: Romy and Michele’s Highschool Reunion (1997) Directed by David Mirkin, starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. Best friends since childhood and roommates since high school graduation, party girls Romy and Michele are two carefree young women living in Southern California. When they hear about their upcoming ten-year class reunion, the pair take stock of their lives since high school and are genuinely surprised to find they have very little to brag about.

February 23 at 19h30: Holes (2003) Directed by Andrew Davis, starring Shia LaBeouf and Sigourney Weaver. Stanley Yelnats is an unusual hero with dogged bad luck stemming from an ancient family curse. He is unfairly sentenced to months of detention at Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn't commit. Stanley and his campmates must stick together and keep one step ahead of the warden and her henchmen as they plot a daring escape from the camp to solve the mystery and break the Yelnats family curse.

February 25 at 19h30: Tadpole (2002) Directed by Gary Winick, starring Sigourney Weaver and Aaron Stanford. Beautiful, sophisticated women are all over Oscar Grubman. On the train home from Chauncey Academy for the Thanksgiving weekend, Oscar confides in his best friend that he has plans for this vacation he will win the heart of his true love. But there is one major debacle: Oscar's true love is his stepmother Eve.

February 27 at 19h30: Gorillas In The Mist (1988) Directed by Michael Apted, starring Sigourney Weaver and Bryan Brown. The story of anthropologist Dian Fossey centred on the extensive work she accomplished with gorillas and her murder in Rwanda in 1985.

February 28 at 19h30: Secret Window (2004) Directed by David Koepp, starring Johnny Depp and Maria Bello. Successful author Mort Rainey is in the midst of a painful divorce and everything about the breakup has turned messy and unpleasant. Then, when it seems as if things can't possibly get worse, a psychotic stranger named John Shooter shows up at his doorstep, accuses Rainey of plagiarizing his story and demands satisfaction.
