The summer season symphony concerts of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra start in the Durban City Hall on February 16 and so do the pre-concert lectures, which are aimed at increasing the enjoyment of concert-goers.
The lectures have moved to a new venue, the Albany Hotel in Smith/Anton Lembede Street, opposite the City Hall. The speaker for the evening discusses the music to be played at the concert and gives recorded excerpts from the items on the programme.
Lectures begin at 18h15 and end at 19h00 in ample time for those attending to walk across the road to the City Hall for the concert starting at 19h30. Tea, coffee and sandwiches are provided from 17h45 and the entrance fee is R30.
The lecturers for the first two concerts are artSMart reviewer Michael Green (February 16) and Ted Brien (February 23).
