LAUNCH OF ZULU CRUSH

Roel Twijnstra

Forming part of the opening of the Phambili Festival on March 9 was the launch of Roel Twijnstra’s Zulu Crush. This is the much-anticipated first novel by this Netherlands theatre director and writer who has made a major contribution to South African community theatre, especially in KZN.

Vivid, personal and poignant, Zulu Crush tells the story of a beautiful and complex love between an established Netherlands playwright and a much younger Zulu actress. Twijnstra describes it as biographical fiction and it can be purchased online at www.itfb.nl or visit www.roeltwijnstra.nl for more information. Watch this space for the forthcoming review.

The second Annual Phambili Theatre Festival takes place at the recently refurbished and newly equipped Stable Theatre and runs until March 11. Phambili is presented by Stable Theatre in association with Twist Projects. The evening also marked the launch of the new Twist Theatre Development Projects New Play-scripts book for 2012: This is an anthology of new plays in English and isiZulu.
