Presented by the Durban University of Technology’s Drama Studies Department, Nawe Mbopha kaSthayi offers a journey into the life and tragic loss of King Shaka Zulu focusing on his assassination by Mbopha and others.
The play charts the historical end of a King, the battlefield of a Zulu nation that’s grieving and the ever power-hungry tyrant, Mkabayi KaJama, Regent Princess of the Zulus, the daughter of Jama kaNdala Chief of the Zulu clan. Mkabayi was the aunt of King Shaka who persuaded the children of Senzangakhona to kill the current King, uShaka, in order for Dingaan to be put to the throne.
