This evening, as part of the KwaZulu-Natal Institute for Architecture Film Festival, free films will be screened in the KZNSA Gallery courtyard. Bring a picnic and a blanket.
Short Films from 18h30:
Basic Space (2010), 4mins: This film was first shown as part of John Pawson’s Plain Space exhibition at the Design Museum, London in 2011. Pawson has earned a reputation as the father of a very particular architectural minimalism. This short film is striking in its immaculately executed flow through glowing white spaces and forms of a monastic elementality.
The Third and the Seventh (2010), 12mins; A film that has captivated over 4.7million viewers on Vimeo - a full CG animated piece that illustrates architecture from a photographic point of view where the main subjects are built spaces: sometimes abstract, sometimes surreal and always visually impressive.
Feature Film at 19h00: Maya Lin: A strong Clear Vision (1994), 83mins: Academy award winning documentary revealing the contentious origins of the Vietnam Veterans memorial and the inspiring story of its creator, a 21 year old architecture student. The film tells the story of Maya Lin, the unlikely candidate, her clarity of vision and courage against all odds.
