SASCE WINNERS WITH KZNPO

The winners of the recent South African Choral Eisteddfod are set to perform with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra at a special Youth Day Concert at the Durban City Hall on June 16.

The KZN Philharmonic is proud to announce this concert, which is the second leg of a partnership with the Department of Education. The first leg involved the choirs participating in the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) Provincial competition on June 2. The KZNPO assisted the participants by accompanying them in their performance. These winners now qualify to represent the Province at National level. The winners will be preparing for the National competition at this concert. This concert will also develop their confidence as they will be performing in front of a live audience.

The orchestra is excited to be offering this wonderful once in a lifetime opportunity for the SASCE Provincial winners. Collaborations such as these form an integral part of its Education and Development programme. Education through entertainment is another avenue of promoting love for music in the youth and the KZN Philharmonic has earned an excellent reputation in this field.

The performing SASCE are soprano Nokulunga Maphanga (Sukuma High School), mezzo-soprano Nonhlanhla Sithole (Bhekuzulu High School), Mzwakhe Gumbi tenor (Ekwazini High School) and baritone S’phamandla Mgcwaba (Khula High School). Audiences will also be treated to a duet by Lindokuhle Mkhabela and Thobani Ngidi from Mqhawe High School as well as a sextet from Edendale Technical School.

This concert will also feature the J.G Zuma choir as well as the KZN Youth Wind Band. J.G Zuma has continuously excelled and won many awards at local, circuit, provincial and national level. The choir has performed with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. The KZN Youth Wind Band is lea by Werner Dannewitz who was instrumental in the founding of the forerunner of the band in Pietermaritzburg in 1977.

The concert will take place on June 16 at 15h00. Entrance to the concert is free and the doors will open at 14h00. For further information contact 031 369 9438 or e-mail kznpo@kznpo.co.za or click on the banner advert at the top of this page.
