(Tonya Koenderman and Lisa Bobbert)
The Convent Girls returns for another season at the Rhumbelow Theatre, saucier and sassier than ever, with new stories, and new songs, but with the same brand of humour and irreverence.
Cabaret stars Lisa Bobbert and Tonya Koenderman have been friends since their school days at Rosebank Convent and Convent Girls is a tribute to those 30 years, The ups and downs they have shared, but most importantly, their convent years, which made them what they are today! Thus proving the adage, "You know what they say about Convent Girls......!"
Recently nominated for three Mercury Durban Theatre awards, including Best Production, Best Direction And Lead Actress (for both Lisa and Tonya), The Convent Girls is a light-hearted look at their lives; similarities and differences. They lovingly poke fun at each other while remaining highly respectful of each other's talent, despite the competitiveness of show business.
With cheeky songs such as Bette Midler's Otto Titsling or He Had It Coming from Chicago, they combine their unique talents to be a force to be reckoned with. In true sassy style, they belt out favourites such as Mack The Knife, Meadowlands, Pata Pata, New York New York, All that Jazz, That's what Friends Are For and Ain't No Mountain High Enough as well as some new surprises.
