The Erik Truffaz Quartet joins a stellar line up tonight (September 1) at the Standard Bank Jazz Jol at the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus.

In collaboration with Alliance Française de Durban, the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will host the EriK Truffaz Quartet, alongside Afrika Mkhize, Quattro Fusion and Demi Fernendez student ensemble at this evening’s Standard Bank Jazz Jol fundraiser.

Erik Truffaz is a Swiss-born French jazz trumpeter, infusing elements of hip hop, rock ‘n roll and dance music into his compositions (Blue Note and EMI label). Inspired by Miles Davis and currently one of the most famous French Jazz men in the world, Erik Truffaz brings his eclectic sounds to South Africa as part of the French/South Africa Season.

Quattro Fusion, initiated by Standard Bank to showcase the 2010 Standard Bank Young Artists for Music, is a collaboration between the award recipients, renowned jazz singer Melanie Scholtz and talented classical violinist Samson Diamond as well as pianist Melvin Peters and percussionist Godfrey Mgcina. The line-up includes the UKZN Big Band and others to provide a feast of music in an endeavour to raise funds for the Ronnie Madonsela Scholarship (RMS) which assists disadvantaged jazz students at UKZN.

The Standard Bank Jazz Jol takes place tonight (September 1) at 19h00 at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN. Entrance is through main UKZN gate, Mazisi Kunene Avenue.

Tickets R100 (R80 pensioners and R50 students) at the door. A cash bar is available. Patrons may bring a picnic basket but are requested to support the bar.
