The Speech and Drama College of South Africa will present a William Shakespeare Workshop by Hugh Thompson tomorrow (September 15) in the Westville Library. Certificates of participation will be issued.
Thompson will cover Othello and Henry V in a workshop aimed at teachers, scholars, students and anyone interested in gaining a greater understanding of Shakespeare’s plays. He will bring more “light and life” to the texts by tackling the most important aspects of the plays, such as themes, plots and character motivations in a practical manner.
Thompson has had 17 years classroom teaching experience. He was the first Head of The College of Education, Drama Department S.A, and spent 18 years teacher-training. He was the first Drama Advisor appointed in South Africa and has 13 years experience as Subject Advisor. He has worked as an examiner, and Matric Drama moderator for five examining bodies. He has also adjudicated for The Speech and Drama College of S.A for many years.
Those attending are advised to bring along copies of the texts or, even better, The Complete Works of Shakespeare.
Places on the workshop could still be available. Contact Zelda on 083 714 0896 (evenings) or Rosanne on 031 763 3714 / 082 603 9080.
The workshop takes place tomorrow (September 15 from 14h00 to 16h00) in the Westville Library, downstairs room F1. Entry R60 (R40 members of The Speech and Drama College S.A) payable at the door. Refreshments will be provided.
