A TRIO OF TALENTS

(Tibor Boganyi)

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s next concert tonight (October 18) is themed A Trio of Talents.

The concert opens with two Hungarian masterpieces and the orchestra welcomes back Tibor Boganyi to the podium to conduct the music of his countrymen. The first piece of the evening is Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, followed by Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, performed by Konstantin Scherbakov. Scherbakov is a highly accomplished soloist and has given solo performances in 35 countries.

In the second half of the concert, South African tenor Musa Nkuna will join soprano Estelle Kruger to present a gripping selection of arias and duets by Italian and French composers. Musa studied singing with James Conrad in Durban and with Pierre-André Blaser at the Conservatoire de Lausanne in Switzerland. Estelle is a Pretoria-born South African soprano who holds a Masters degree in opera performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and from the Pretoria Technikon Opera School.
