October sees Ster-Kinekor showcasing a
variety of Hindi titles. Committed to delivering quality movies from around the
world to South African audiences, Ster-Kinekor will deliver four this month
including English Vinglish, Bhoot Returns
3D, AIYYAA and Student of the Year.
English
Vinglish releases on October 5 and is heart-warming
comedy that sees screen icon Sridevi return to the big screen after a 14 year
sabbatical. This is the tale of a woman who signs up for an English language
course as a result of being made to feel insecure by her family and society at
large. She is determined to overcome these insecurities, master the language
and teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self-assured and
confident woman. An inspirational film, it also stars Mehdi Nebbou, Adil
Hussain and Priya Anand.
On October 12, go wakda with the fun
romantic comedy AIYYAA. Starring
Bollywood superstar Rani Mukerji, this is the tale of a Marathi girl who falls
in love with a Tamil artist, set against the backdrop of a Marathi-Tamil
cultural clash. A charming love story, it is directed by Sachin Kundalkar and
also stars Tamil heartthrob Prithviraj.
Bollywood horror film Bhoot Returns 3D also releases at Ster-Kinekor on October 12,
starring J.D Chakravarthy, Manisha Koirala, Madhu Shalini and Alayana Sharma. A
sequel to the 2003 supernatural horror Bhoot,
it is directed by Ram Gopal Varma and written by Ravi Shankar. Shot in 3D to
make it even more terrifyingly real for audiences, the film follows the misery
of a haunted family and their attempts at escape.
Student
of the Year releases on October 19 and delivers
another Bollywood romantic comedy. Celebrating the colourful coming of age, it
is the story of two young men who traverse the path of competition, envy,
triumph, failure, manipulation and heartbreak in their mini-universe of St.
Teresa’s High School. They each have very different and distinct backgrounds,
clashing in the locker room, football field and even in the canteen. An
unlikely friendship soon develops, however, but when the most popular girl in
school enters the equation, loyalties are put to the test. Starring Sidharth
Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and the beautiful Alia Bhatt, this film is directed by celebrated
filmmaker Karan Johar (Dostana).
