Television programme with an American
format is soon to hit South African shores!
Millions of people regularly sing in choirs
all around the world. People sing for all they’re worth in schools, workplaces,
churches, in clubs and societies and in professional chamber choirs. The
feeling of being part of a large singing collective gives people a high which
cannot be compared to any other form of musical expression.
Within TV entertainment music contests like
Idols focus on image, appearance and
individual performance. In Clash of the
Choirs this trend is taken one step further by allowing each participant to
become a part of a large singing collective which will compete against other
choirs. The tremendous power of choral singing is captured and talents rejected
by individual talent programmes are given a unique chance to avenge themselves
before TV viewers.
Through the course of Clash of the Choirs, seven celebrities are each given the task of
going back to their hometowns to train and coach an amateur choir.
Determination, charm and enthusiasm are more important than stage experience or
formal training. The choirs will then compete against each other in live
broadcasts. The mission: to beat six rival choirs in seven weeks of live music
competition, and to have the time of their life doing it! The music: today’s
chart-topping hits, as well as modern rock and R&B classics!
At the end of each episode, except for the
first, one of the choirs is eliminated by the viewers. In a thrilling final,
two choirs go head-to-head for the first prize: a spectacular gift to a charity
in the winning choir’s hometown!
Mzansi Magic is looking for exciting,
dynamic and versatile choirs to take part in this exciting competition. The
choir members need to be 18 years and older to audition and compete.
Interested choirs to please send names,
contact numbers, email addresses and a brief biography of the choir (no more
than half a page) to kzn@pansa.org.za before November
2. They will then be contacted for an audition in Durban before the end of
November.
NB: Applicants not contacted by the end of
November were not successful.
