Jonathan
Nkala’s highly acclaimed one-man play, Cockroach,
returns to the Catalina Theatre for a short run of four performances only.
Seen
last year during the first xeNOTphobia festival, this wry, witty,
anecdotal, autobiographical and heart-wrenching one-man show returns by public
demand to present this short season.
Cockroach is a humorous biographical insight of
Khumbu, a Zimbabwean refugee seeking asylum in South Africa. The production
explores a myriad of topics such as childhood exuberance, cultural malpractice,
love in a hate-ridden society, manhood and the physically challenging and
terrifying process of leaving Zimbabwe and entering South Africa as an illegal
immigrate.
Cockroach is written and performed by Jonathan Kumbulani
Nkala and directed by Bo Petersen. It will run at the Catalina Theatre on
