(Gary
McKenzie, Grant Bell & John Didlick)
Remember the good old days of ...
”Braaivleis, rugby, sunny skies and....”
The Gee Jays (Gary McKenzie, John Didlick
and Grant Bell) have compiled their brand new show Don’t Tune Me – Ek Se’ as a tribute to the number one hit songs of
the seventies that we all remember, from a South African perspective, with
fondness. Which “tune” did you like.? Cos they’re gonna “tune” you!
The line-up, together with the usual madcap
antics of The Gee Jays promise to have audiences rolling in the aisles as well
as remembering what they were doing when these discs were being spun, back in
the day.
“If these songs take you back ... Pretty Belinda, Yellow River, Tie a Yellow
Ribbon and I Can See Clearly Now, Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, Rhinestone
Cowboy, Let Your Love Flow and Have
You Ever Seen the Rain jog a fond memory for you (or your kids), then this
show is for you. They are all the tunes we have a soft spot for – even if we
never admit it!” says Gary McKenzie.
The line-up includes songs by great 70’s
artists like Johnny Nash, Albert Hammond, Paul McCartney and Wings and, of
course, The Village People as well as The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Bellamy
Brothers and Cliff Richards, and the great Neil Diamond. Not to mention some of
the many top South African bands who made it big in the 70’s, like The Bats,
Clout, Charisma, The Dealians and Jeremy Taylor.
The Gee Jays are backed by some very
talented musos in Andy Turrell (guitar), Jill Murraybrown (bass), Francois
Hardy (drums) and is musically directed by Calli Thomson on keyboards.
“It’s an evening of pure South African
nostalgia not to be missed,” adds McKenzie. ”Oh yes and... Bring your laughing
tackle.. Ek se’…”
