This weekend (October 13 and 14), Music
Revival in Pietermaritzburg will present two performances of a concert titled Esperanza which offers music from the
Latin World and Spain.
Noted for its atmospheric, expressive and
touching melancholy, the music of the Latin world inhabits a unique and
instantly appealing emotional zone. There is also much to enjoy in terms of
sensual rhythms and blinding brilliance.
Included are some of the most celebrated
compositions by Albeniz and Granados (including Sevillanas, Tango and Spanish
Dance No 5) together with music from popular Argentine composers Astor
Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera and Brazilian Ernesto Nazareth. In addition,
Duigan offers an introduction to music from rarely-heard composers Manual Ponce
and Carlos Guastovino.
