Currently running at the Artisan Gallery in
Morningside, the Fibreworks 2012 exhibition
offers a rich and varied experience.
The artists come from a variety of arts and design backgrounds and use predominantly fibres and textiles as their means of expression.
However, a mixed media approach to materials and techniques is freely incorporated. The work displays a variety of techniques from low-tech to high-tech- dyeing, painting, printing, glueing, burning, stitching and embellishment. The range of fibres that are used could be animal, vegetable, mineral and synthetic fibres. Freshness and unpredictability, colour, sensitivity and strength reflect the energy of South Africa today.

This exhibition is entitled Major Minors IV and comprises small
works (25cm x 25cm) and is accompanied by a beautifully produced full-colour
catalogue which is available for sale. This is the fourth of these annual
travelling exhibitions which have been viewed with great acclaim in the USA,
Europe, New Zealand and Australia, as well as South Africa.
Major
Minors IV was exhibited for the first time in July
2012 in Johannesburg at ICQ Africa.
