ZULU DANCE CHAMPIONS

(Abubehezi Dance Troupe from Kwa Mashu – 2011 winners!)

Feel the beat of Africa at uShaka Marine World. It’s Zulu Dance Champions time again and Durban’s favourite marine theme park will host a competition on November 10, 17 and 24.

According to Entertainment Manager Wayne Scott, - the top 10 dance troupes will perform for the final on December 2 from 10h00.

Over 60 dance troupes will perform the Indlamu - the traditional dance most often associated with Zulu culture and based on warrior war dances. First prize is R5,000 in cash, a floating trophy and a R350,000 guaranteed working contract from December 2012 to December 2013. The second and third placed troupes will receive cash prizes of R3,000 and R2,000 respectively. Judges include Scott, a representative from KZN’s Department of Arts & Culture, Vodacom and two celebrity judges who will be announced shortly.

“This unique event only happens at uShaka Marine World. It started eight years ago and has given performers a unique opportunity to provide the very best cultural entertainment for both local and international visitors. We’re expecting thousands of dancers to enter and as many members of the public to enjoy this dance spectacle,” said Scott.

The competitions take place on November 10, 17 and 24 at 11h00 with registration at 09h00. For more information, contact Nombuso Buthelezi for bookings on 031 328 8103
