Founded in 2007, One Day on Earth is a film project that once a year aspires to capture
the human experience in every country, on Earth on the same day through a network
of filmmakers across the globe.
The first feature-length documentary film,
featuring footage captured on 10.10.10, premiered on Earth Day, April 22 this
year in 160 countries around the world, making it the second biggest premier in
history. The documentary showcases the work of over 19,000 volunteer filmmakers
– novice and professional –and sets a world record: the first movie to feature
footage from every country in the world on the same day.
One
Day on Earth’s shared and searchable archive
includes over 6,000 hours of footage featuring important global issues – from
extreme poverty to climate change to gender equality, with a first of its kind
social networking website, aspiring people to stand together to take action.
The founder and director of One Day on Earth is Kyle Ruddick with Brandon
Litman as co-founder and executive producer.
The project mobilized and activated a
network of participants in every country on Earth through a worldwide open call
for filmmakers in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. One Day on Earth donated 1,000 high
definition cameras to ensure participants had the best tools possible to
capture the world around them, even in the planet’s most remote places. More
than 3,000 hours of video in 70 languages were edited down to create the
feature film. Proceeds of the sales of One
Day On Earth 10.10.10 will go towards obtaining more camera’s for community
filmmakers and getting it out to them in time for 12.12.12.
From professional documentary filmmakers to
high school students, a diverse and dynamic group of participants contributed
footage that showcases the cultures, customs and everyday life from around the
world!
With only a week to go until 12.12.12, One Day On Earth is calling all filmmakers,
novice or professional, in South Africa, to participate in this truly inspiring
project, by capturing and sharing unique stories of life in their communities,
to share with the world.
