Many will remember Brian Finch from the renowned duo Finch
& Henson back in the 70’s and 80’s.
This South African singer/songwriter (born and raised in
surf city Durban and now based in Prince Albert in the Karoo) has a music
career that spans 40 years, 13 albums and 2 DVD’s. He is a true South African
music legend who has recently also toured Germany, Holland and the UK.
There is no doubt that the legacy of Finch & Henson
still lives on in the songs that South Africans have come to love, like Brian’s
self-penned classics Playgrounds in
Paradise, Kokstad, Beautiful Feeling and Oh Brother, to name a few. Finch is one of those special artists
who just has to be seen live to get the full effect. There is an uncanny
hair-raising quality to the power of his voice, and the enjoyment evident in
his stage presence is very contagious.
For his performance at the Royal Natal Yacht Club on February
1 he is joined by two great musicians in the form of long-time collaborator,
producer and percussionist Dan Chiorboli and ace violinist Ant
Cawthorn-Blazeby. The evening also features a rare appearance by veteran
comedian Spider Murch.
Recent critics rate Finch’s show 'absolutely world class’,
and “an artist at the pinnacle of his profession”, whose half hour encores
“take the cake”!
This “one off” event is a real coup for the Royal Natal
Yacht Club and is organized by member Clive van Reenen who aims to bring the
Club’s historic Trafalgar Room to life with this unique musical experience. Doors
open at 19H00 and full restaurant and bar facilities will be available.
