The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s summer
season, consisting of six symphony concerts, begins on February 7 and so do the
pre-concert lectures, which are aimed at increasing the enjoyment of those
attending the orchestra’s performances.
The lectures start at 18h15. and finish by 19h00.,
in good time for those attending to walk across the road to the concerts
starting at 19h30. The lectures are non-technical, practical, and humorous, and
they include musical excerpts from the works to be performed.
The lecturers this season are: Ted Brien (February
7); Dr Teddy Pillay (February 14); Christopher
Duigan (February 21) and Michael Green (February 28, March 7 and March 14)
The lectures are given in the Alhambra Room
of the Natal Playhouse, in Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street), Durban, opposite
the City Hall, where the concerts take place. The admission charge is R10.
