The
Friends of Music will hold their next recital on February 19.
The
impressive line-up of performers features Boris Kerimov (cello), Elena Kerimova
(1st violin), Emi Fukuda (2nd violin), David Snaith (viola), Liezl-Maret
Jacobs (piano) and Ian Holloway (clarinet).
Boris Kerimov is well known to Durban music
audiences and presents a seldom-heard programme, a combination of string
quartet and piano, which makes a singularly powerful ensemble as it joins two
self-sufficient forces in a grand partnership.
The
programme includes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F, Opus 34; Shostakovich’s Piano
Quintet in G, Opus 57, and the Overture on Hebrew Themes for Clarinet and String
Quartet and piano – Opus 34 by Prokofiev.
The Prelude Performer will be clarinettist
Wesley Lewis who has a Diploma in Clarinet performance from UKZN Howard
College. Accompanied by Jaques Heyns he will perform Franz V Kromme’s 2nd &
3rd movement Op. 36.
The
recital takes place at 19h45 on February 19 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old
Fort (K.E. Masinga) Road, Durban. Tickets R70 (R60 FOM members, R20 Orchestral/Students).

Friends
of Music will host a pre-concert lecture before the performance by the KZN
Philharmonic Orchestra on February 14 at 18h15 in the Alhambra Room at the
Playhouse.
