For the first time in a long period, the
KZN Youth Orchestra will combine with the KZN Youth Choir to present a concert
at Crawford College, La Lucia on March 1.
Orchestra members range from ages 12 to 22
and development and advanced orchestras will perform under the batons of Cathy
Peacock and Lyk Temmingh. The programme will feature a variety of music ranging
from baroque and classical to music with a local flavour. The KZN Youth
Orchestra will be taking part in the chamber music festival in Stellenbosch in
July and plans to tour to Bremen in Germany in September.
The youth choir, founded in 1968, comprises
105 members aged 14 to 27. This is the oldest youth choir in South Africa and
it performs sacred, secular and folk styled music. The Artistic Director is Gérard Albért du
Toit who will also lead the choir when it travels to Italy in July to compete
in the Florence International Choir Festival.
The concert takes place at 19h00 on March 1
at Crawford College, La Lucia. The performance offers an informal, supper
theatre-style concert and patrons are invited to BYO. Tickets R60 booked
