The heat is on as Salsa hits the beachfront
this Sunday.
Feel the Heat with Durban's much-talked
about salsa band, Manteca at Suncoast's Beach Promenade on February 10. The
vibrant, 12-piece Afro-Caribbean band will perform in a fun-filled,
salsa-inspired mini-festival featuring dancing, dance lessons and sizzling
sounds as part of Suncoast's Valentine's entertainment line-up.
The fest is free and audience members can
join in the fun and learn the basic steps of this exciting dance form with
beginner and intermediate classes by a Cuban dance instructor. Professional
dancers from local salsa dance schools will also be taking to the dance floor
in demos.
Manteca features vocalists Liana Allegra
Barciela and the legendary Sam Marais from KZN, Raul Rodriguez from Cuba and
Kelly Burrows from Madagascar, award winning Durban pianist David Langely,
Durban's own Mark Momple on bass, another Durbanite Jonathon Judge and Johan
van der Molen from Holland on saxophones, local jazz trumpeter Daniel Sheldon,
and percussionists John Drace from California and Alberto Chemane from
Mozambique
The band plays a classic salsa repertoire
from New York, Puerto Rico and Cuba, plus their own adaptations of jazz and
funk classics.
Manteca will perform at Suncoast's Beach
