In a fascinating combination of music presented
by the Pietermaritzburg-based Music Revival, Christopher Duigan complies a
selection of classics that by turn focus on moods of darkness, or light.
Included are the Mozart Sonata in D major K
310, one of his most sparkling piano works, contrasted by Liszt’s Funerailles, inspired by the death of a
fellow composer, Debussy’s Feux
d’artifice (Fireworks) and Moskowski’s Etincelles
(Sparks) and selections from Scarlatti Sonatas and Schubert’s Impromptus . A
fascinating voyage though a multi-layered and multi- faceted emotional and
‘visual’ landscape.
