Good news for lovers of Dixie, Swing and
good old jazz tunes is that Platform Jazz will be back at the Rhumbelow this
weekend. In the past year, they have performed at a number of events and places
including various fundraisers for schools and churches, a week-long run at the
Heritage in June, Jazz and Shiraz at
Riverbend croc farm, an evening of Jazz at the Village of Happiness, The Hilton
Festival and they opened the line up of acts for ECR’s Durban Day in September.
This time the featured vocalist is Durban’s
sultry Shelley “Nightingale” McLean. The band promises a varied programme which
will include favourites like Honeysuckle
Rose , Tiger Rag, I’ve Got you under My Skin, In the Mood, Pennsylvania 6500, Take
5, Almost Like being in Love, and L.O.V.E
to name a few. One of the highlights of the show is Hey Big Spender where Shelley interacts with Duncan and his red
trombone!
The musos include Cathy “Hotlips” Peacock
on trumpet, Ian “lightning fingers” Holloway on clarinet, Dunc “the Hunk”
Wooldridge on trombone, the honourable Jono Judge on sax, Melvin “The Keys”
Peters on keyboard, “Bashful“ Bruce Baker on drums and Andreas “Bullfiddel”
Kappen on double bass.
The performances will take place on April 21
at 14h00 and 18h30. Venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner. Take
along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure
