(Vivian Moodley & Bassy Bhola)

Produced by Dingalings Productions in association with Catalina UnLtd and directed by Yugan Naidoo, Quarter Beans Bru is set in a Durban eatery (Patels) best known for its appetising vegetarian bunnies at yesteryear’s prices.

This becomes the backdrop for a delightful conversation which threads its way from the arcades of Durban City, the inner story of Grey Street and surrounding areas and, of course, the famous, infamous and flamboyant personalities of the time.

Played by playwright, filmmaker and comedian Vivian Moodley and stage personality Bassy Bhola, the two storytellers bring to life historical developments that pertain to the Indian diaspora and celebrate many unsung heroes of the past.

Quarter Beans Bru, which is written by Yugan Naidoo, is a two-act play that runs at the Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Wharf, from May 2 to 19. Shows Thursday to Saturday at 20h00 (Sundays 14h00 and 18h00). Tickets R100 booked at Computicket or 0861 915 8000 or online at
