The Playhouse Company has announced the death of dancer
Zinhle Gumede, a member of the Playhouse Residency, who passed away during the
early hours of Thursday, June 27, 2013.
“It is with deep sadness that we advise the passing of a phenomenal
artist,” says Linda Bukhosini, CEO and Artistic Director of The Playhouse Company.
“Zinhle was a much loved, joyful, humble, peaceful and outstanding dancer who
worked with various dance companies including Siwela Sonke Dance Company, Sun
City Extravaganzas, Jazzart, Mmabatho Arts Council Dance Company, among others.
“She toured with African
Footprints and danced in various productions at The Playhouse Company. She
joined The Playhouse dance residency as the dance captain last year and
recently featured in Adele Blank’s World’s
Apart.
“Zinhle’s sterling performances included collaborations with
Dr Gcina Mhlophe, Mark Hawkins, traditional isigekle dance troupe. She will be
truly missed by the arts community.”
A memorial tribute to Zinhle is planned for next Wednesday,
July 3 at 15h30 at the Playhouse. The funeral service will be held at the
Chesterville community hall on Saturday, July 6 at 09h00.
