NAF: NATASHA MEISTER

(Natasha Meister)

Exceptional guitar playing, be it acoustic or electric, is just about as good as it gets. (Review by Keith Millar)

Move over Adele, we have Natasha Meister. A little more bluesy. perhaps, and less commercial, but just as good all the same.

Then there is her guitar paying. Wow! It brings to mind the style of Eric Clapton or John Mayer. She also writes her own original songs. Yes, I know she was born in Canada but she has lived in Cape Town for the past four years and anyway we should claim anyone this good as our own.

Natasha Meister, who was on her second visit to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, did several solo performances at the Lowlander Blues/Jazz club. It is an intimate venue which is perfectly suited to Meister’s informal, almost shy, presentation. She is a very attractive young lady and, dressed in black leather jacket and leggings with a red dress, looks like the classic rock chick. She describes herself as a blues singer but there is plenty of soul in that voice.

However - whatever the genre, it is an appealing voice with oodles of emotion. Her guitar playing, be it acoustic or electric, is exceptional and just about as good as it gets.

Meister performed several of her own compositions including This Desire, You’re So Good For Me, Not All About You, Save In the Silence and Ready For The Rain. All were emotion charges songs of love and longing. She also did covers of songs such as Adele’s Rolling In The Deep, John Mayer’ Gravity and Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.

Natasha Meister is an exceptionally talented young performer whose star is on the rise. Look out for her, she is well worth seeing. – Keith Millar
