The Game becomes more risky with audience
participation. (Review by Pauline Dalais)
Appearing on the Fringe programme of the National
Arts Festival in Grahamstown was Vulture Productions’ Risk.
This is an interactive drama following a
production crew about the flight of a controversial game-show where six
contestants play Russian roulette on live television. Adapted from Live by Bill Guttentag, Risk features five cast members who play
different characters. It depicts the obsessions people have with money, power
and fame, and what we are willing to risk to get these.
Directed and written by Jeremeo Le Cordeur who
appears with Shamilla Ismeal and Clayton Evertson this is a mentally
stimulating show that will leave you thinking. (Language : English &
isiXhosa)
The set comprises a work-station consisting
of a round conference table, two stools, and a laptop. The game show set is
three contestant tables (drums), a projector/screen which shows flashbacks of
the last television episode of Risk and of the present contestants.
There are six contestants, each praying to
dodge the bullet and walk off with one of the R5million cheques, a 357smith and
Wesson revolver loaded with one silver bullet.
Five lucky contestants will have their lives changed forever with a
R5million cheque and one will lose his/her life taking this chance.
Neil is the game show host and one of the
producers who believes too many things in the world are black/white and should
be purple. The second producer is Aaron aka Buzz Light Year who is not too keen
on the show. He thinks Neil is turning the show pink and Lisa Montgomery the
new blonde assistant is turning it peach.
The Game becomes more risky with audience
participation.
This was a very unusual stage production
which gave one the feeling and adrenalin of being on the set of the Risk game
show. – Pauline Dalais
