A new book by photographer Neville Petersen titled On Assignment in the Old SA will be
launched at the National Arts Festival.
The book contains a vast collection of black and white
photographs Petersen took while on assignment for various newspapers in South
Africa. The period covered stretches roughly from 1981 to 1991 - the decade
just before democracy.
It forms an interesting glance at a time in South Africa’s
history which is often forgotten. There are many well-known faces that readers
will instantly recognise and events they will recall. A wonderful mix of sport,
news, celebrity and human interest stories with short captions for easy
reading. It also gives the reader a peek into the life and experiences of a
press photographer of that era.
The book will be available for sale at a special festival
price of R400 at The Provost Café, situated on Lucas Avenue, between the Rhodes
University Botany Department and the Grahamstown Botanical Gardens for the
duration of the festival which runs until July 7, 2013.
