The Mondays At Six @ St Clements programme this
evening (September 9) sees Rajesh Gopie reading from his new play, Tamasha on Hope Street.
A Zimbabwean school teacher in exile in
South Africa escapes with his life from a township xenophobic attack and takes
refuge in the Indian township of Chatsworth. He gets a job as a night watchman
tasked with keeping seedy elements off his employer's shop front during
nocturnal hours. However, he is on a collision course with a feisty young
Indian prostitute who makes her living from that very spot.
A remarkable coming together of worlds,
dreams and cultures plays itself out with startling repercussions.
