On November 5, the Maritzburg Musicians
Club will host Hyde and the Resistance,
a Durban-based three-piece melodic rock band which was founded in September
2012 by ex-SETH front man Preston Ellapen.
The first incarnation of Hyde and the
Resistance was a four-piece band. After a few gigs early in 2013, the band went
through line-up and personnel changes. The new line-up consists of Preston’s
younger brother Princeton Ellapen (bass guitar and backing vocals), ex Wired
Temple frontman Shannon John (drums and backing vocals) and Preston Ellapen (lead
vocals, guitar and keyboards).
The band draws influence from Switchfoot,
U2, Muse and Coldplay and yet they have something remarkably different to offer
the music industry. It’s their combination of poetically engineered lyrics,
stadium anthems and ability to think out of the genre box that makes them
unique and assures the listener that they will be around for a while.
“We
are currently focusing on our live performances,” says Preston Ellapen. “At
this point we want to play our songs to as many audiences as we can and in turn
let our songs be shaped by our live performances. The band plans to release an
EP early in 2014.
The music starts at 20h00 and entrance is
R30. The home of the Maritzburg Musicians Club, The Red Door is situated in
Quarry Rd, off Victoria Road, in Pietermaritzburg. Car guards on duty. More
