(Yura Lee)
In their next
recital, Friends of Music will present violinist Yura Lee, first prizewinner of
2013 ARD Competition in Germany, who is enjoying a career that spans almost two
decades and takes her all over the world.
Her musical
integrity and compelling artistry were praised by critics. Yura Lee has
received International prizes including the Audience Prize at the 2006 Leopold Mozart
Competition (Germany), 1st prize at Unisa Competition (SA), 1st prize at 2013
Yuri Bashmet International Competition (Russia) and top prizes in the
Indianapolis (USA) Hanover (Germany), Kreisler (Austria) Pagnini (Italy
competition).
She is currently a
member of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln in New York as both violinist
and violist.
Accompanying Yura
Lee will be accomplished South African pianist Tertia Visser-Downie who has won
the prestigious Mabelquick Scholarship in England. She completed her
Honours degree in music at the University of Stellenbosch, as well as achieving
the Unisa Performers’ and Teachers’ Licentiates with distinction in both
qualifications.
The programme
includes Beethoven’s Sonata for violin & Piano in D major Op.12 No 1; Brahms’s
Sonata No3 for Violin and piano in D minor, Op. 108; Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro / Liebesleid /
Liebesfreud, and Tchaikovsky’s Waltz-Scherzo.
Prelude Performers
will be Brett and Nina Alborough on clarinet and oboe.
The performance
will take place on November 12 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Centre. Tickets
R70 (R60 FOM members and R20 orchestral / students).
