(Jutta Faulds)
Threads: Celebrating
Fibre Artist Jutta Faulds is an exhibition currently running in the Main
Exhibition Room and Schreiner Gallery of the Tatham Art Gallery in
Pietermaritzburg.
Jutta Faulds – fibre artist, crafter, quilter, knitter
extraordinaire, teacher, organiser, chemist, founding member of Midlands Arts
and Crafts Society, and friend to many - turns 80 at the end of this year. In
recognition of her extraordinary contribution to the development of Fibre Art
both nationally and internationally, this exhibition comprises two parts.
The first is an exhibition in the Main Exhibition Room which
consists of artworks made by Jutta Fauld's friends, acquaintances, fellow
quilters and fibre artists. These artists were invited to produce artworks that
would celebrate her contribution to artistic creativity in South Africa. Many
of the participants have been taught by her, or influenced by her in some
meaningful way.
The supporting exhibition of Jutta's own art works in the
Schreiner Gallery, mostly from the Tatham's permanent collection, showcases the
many aspects of Jutta's creative production and will include some of the
seminal works produced by this prolific artist.
Threads: Celebrating
Fibre Artist Jutta Faulds runs until February 9, 2014, at 17h00. The Tatham Art
Gallery is situated opposite
the Town Hall in Chief Albert
Luthuli Street, Pietermaritzburg. More information
