On December 1, there was much foot stomping,
drum beats and joyful celebrations from the uShaka Marine World Zulu Dance
Championships finals presented by the Department of Arts and Culture and
Vodacom.
With over 20 Zulu dance troupes from around
KwaZulu-Natal vying for the title and showing off their talents, a wonderful
display of entertainment was created for the public and judges alike.
Overall, only one winner could be chosen to
win the coveted prize of R10,000 and a 12 month working contract at uShaka
valued at R350,000 were the Umlazi African Jingle.
The first runners up were Amazebra winning
a R8,000 cash prize, and coming in third was last year’s winners, Izinyamazane,
winning R5,000 in cash. The best way to wrap up the day was a comment from the
Umlazi African Jingle dance troupe leader, Senzo Vilakazi: “We are so happy,
that we can entertain people with our dancing and win”!
