On December 15, bluestockings will present Vana,
and Oh So Serious, currently touring from Pretoria.
Vana is a country blues and folk singer
from Irene Pretoria (see www.theohsoserious.com).
The last time he came to bluestockings was about three years ago when he packed
out the old Luna Lounge venue, with a special genre of old skool blues that was
first heard in the downtown streets of New Orleans in the 1930s! This time he
ventures out with a new outfit called the Oh So Serious
Vana’s recent groups include the Oh So
Serious and the Foot up Folk Trio with whom he performs in and around Gauteng.
His influences include Hank Williams and The Mississippi Sheiks as well as
modern time singers Gram Parsons, David Viner and Leon Redbone.
The Oh So Serious comprises Pretorian
locals Rynier Prins (double bass), Rian Britz (accordion), Schulie Van Heerden
(mandolin) and Pierre Van Staden (blues harp) stringing together songs and
standards from the last 100 years in the country blues and folk genres.
This performance will not take place at the
normal bluestockings venue but just up the road at the well-known Tina's Hotel.
There is ample parking.
