The Westville Theatre Club will host Rockhaven in a chilled
evening listening to live music, which promises to get audiences’ feet tapping
and singing along with a selection of classic rock songs of all time.
A senior Joburg advocate who used to play with Roy Wolfson
back in the 70’s and who has his own band in Johannesburg, casually suggested
to Keith Isaacs (who used to play in his band) that he and Roy get together and
throw a few songs around. Rockhaven was born.
The band features Keith Isaacs, Roy Wolfson, Emil Unger and
Steve Du Preez.
Keith Isaacs on Ovation 12 string rhythm guitar and part
time vocals and the only band member with recent gigging experience now living
in Durban.
Roy Wolfson, who hadn’t picked up a guitar for nearly two
decades, grooved right into the mix and now sports an American fat Strat and a
wistful memory of how he used to sing. Although has never played lead, Roy now
strives to be the lead guitarist and singer.
The bass player Emil Unger is actually an experienced
keyboard player and has had band experience in some forgotten decades but only
recently re-ignited his musical acumen on a Hohner headless bass. His mojo is
any song with Cmajor7 in it.
Drummer Steve Du Preez probably last drummed in a band
setting over 30 years ago, and by virtue of a few little medical quirks will
sometimes be seen to drop a stick now and again but still manages the beat on a
classic Pearl drum set.
They will be joined by vocal backers Vincent Doger de
Speville, Laura Lee-Hillier and Sharon Ditchburn.
Rockhaven performs on January 17 and 18. Doors open at 19h00
and the show starts at 20h00. Tickets R60, BYO food and drink .Bookings on 082
