Just
Yours is a romantic drama/comedy written and directed
by Sandy Bigara (The Game, Animal Tails I
& II, Beswitched, Songs of Love, Rapunzel) which comes to the Catalina
Theatre, opening on February 6.
Just
Yours is set in Durban, February of 1943 in the
exact spot where the audience is sitting 71 years later, in 2014,
Featuring Chanel Julie-Anne Meager, Arno Wagenaar, Christiaan
du Plessis and Sandy Bigara, the show is filled with
the haunting love songs of the 40s - Bei
Mir Bist Du Shein, Auf Wiedersehen, If I Loved
You and Just Yours. Some of the
songs will be performed live by Bigara. Bound within a beautiful setting,
stylish clothes from the era and live piano, this historically-based love story
is set on the brink of a life-changing event.
The story deals with an innocent young
lady, Ada May Green (Meager), who arrives in Durban in 1943. WWII is raging. She tries to find
her place in the big city, looking for work while staying with her godmother,
the fiery Florence (Bigara). Florence is the assistant and lounge singer at the
Marine Hotel Lounge.
Ada meets a handsome stranger, Daniel
Barnes (Wagenaar) and the sparks fly ... they can`t stand each other! His mischievous
friend Barney Bekker (du
Plessis) doesn’t help! Despite bad first impressions,
their love grows until it is too powerful to deny and a war-weary Florence
tears them apart with lies and deceit. Will their love endure? All before Danny
is deployed to the 262 Squadron RAF in St Lucia, to fly surveillance missions in
the PBY5 Catalina airplanes?
The show promises a good pace, with funny
and heart-warming moments throughout. Audiences will be taken back in time for
a “flight of fantasy” set in familiar surroundings.
Just
Yours runs from February 6 to 22 from Thursdays to
Saturdays at 19h00 with an extra matinee on February 22 at 14h00. Tickets R100
for the show only.
There is an optional extra of a show and
dinner package at R160. The meal takes place at John Dory's and will be
available pre-show on Thursdays, and before and after the shows on Friday and
Saturday. John Dory's is in the Wilson’s Wharf complex, (Entrance #2) off the
Victoria Embankment.
