Once more the Live Poets Society (LiPS) has
had to move to a new venue with the closure of The COLLECTIVE.
“Claus and Karen Bradtke who ran the COLLECTIVE
have offered to house us at their prominent art gallery and art school,” says
LiPS convenor, Danny Naicker. “artSPACE will now be our new home.”
The next LiPS gathering takes place on
February 5. Guest poets appearing call themselves The Poetry Forum and are
headed by Abdulla Amla (Author of In
Love’s Way and a former guest of LiPS). This is a small group of about 10
writers and aspiring writers who share and feature their work (mostly poetry)
with each other. The writers hail from all parts of South Africa as well as
overseas. The purpose of the group is to nurture new talent and help hone each
others’ writing skills in order to achieve a vision of publishing a joint
anthology in the not too distant future. Already some of the writers have had
their work published in magazines, etc.
The main feature for the evening will be
author Bilkis Moola, Head of Department in Languages at Theu-Theu Primary in
Volksrust, Mpumalanga. It was here in her hometown where she began her journey
of healing from a severely abusive marriage. This healing process culminated in
the compilation and publication of her first anthology Wounds & Wings – A Lyrical Salve Through Metaphor. She has
started her venture of helping and guiding other abused women with her recent
initiative, Poetry as Therapy.
Other poets to be featured are Abdulla Amla
, Tasneem Rawat and Rowaida Hoosen.
The LiPS gathering takes place at artSPACE
