Moving into Dance (MIDM) moves across the country, having accepted
65% of its student body for 2014 from outside Gauteng and 93% of the 2013 class
have been placed in the industry either studying or performing.
The student selected from KwaZulu-Natal is Nomfundo Hlongwa
(20) from Kwa Mashu. She matriculated in 2011 at Newlands East Secondary School
and attended the Kwa Mashu School of Dance for two years as a part time student.
After matric she was given the opportunity to go to Jazzart Dance Theatre and
was there as a trainee, beforfe she auditioned to be a 1st year student at
Moving into Dance Mophatong.
MIDM continues to impact the dance industry through the
Performing Arts Training Course and values the contribution that graduates over
the years have made in the dance industry in South Africa and abroad. From
servicing the basic need of developing skills in youth who do not have the
resources to study further or enter the economy, MIDM has changed the lives of
individuals, homes and communities.
Through this training, MIDM services a large portion of the
industry and provides a strong foothold for talented youth to access the
industry and the economy.
MIDM's programmes are made possible through support from the
National Arts Council (NAC), Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), AngloGold Ashanti,
CATHSSETA and Dancing for the Children.
