Durban
learners and Rising Stars Performance Academy (RSPA) Theatre School students,
Christopher Turner, Emily Spencer, Sinikiwe Sifumba and Melissa Strydom, have
been selected by the National Theatre Scotland to represent South Africa,
performing with the International Performing Company, at the 2014 Commonwealth
Games.
Countries
represented by the International Performing Company are: Australia, Bangladesh,
Canada, England, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, South Africa,
Wales and Scotland.
The four
students will fly to Scotland in July and will be involved in one of five
devising groups. These groups will work with professional directors, creative
specialists, composers, designers, choreographers and technicians to create
interactive installations and site-responsive street theatre at the Commonwealth
Games.
Theatre
School Director, Gill Brunings, says “The National Theatre of Scotland will
cover accommodation, training and food whilst our students are there, but we
urgently need help in raising funds to cover flight and visa costs.”
If there
are businesses that would like to be involved and help these four talented
students get to Glasgow, contact Brunings on 083 326 3257 or email: gill@rspa.co.za
