(Nik Rabinowitz)
For one night only – Monday (March 3) - the
world's leading Jewish-speaking Xhosa comedian, Nik Rabinowitz, will perform at
The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway - an appropriate venue for one of only two
Jewish boys in the last two thousand years to be born in a barn.
Aside from winning numerous awards such as SA
Stand-Up Comic Of The Year (2008/2009), he has starred in Bafunny Bafunny (Top Seven South African comics) at The Royal
Albert Hall (2010); made a guest appearance on BBC 2's Mock The Week (2011); and has performed internationally in the UK,
Holland, Australia, Nigeria and Canada. Nik has been hosting a weekly satirical
radio show, The Week That Wasn't, on
702 since 2008 and has been the voice of Tutu, Khanyi Mabu and countless other
characters on ZA News (zanews.co.za) since 2009.
To date, Nik has produced and performed
eight hilarious one-man shows and has just finished a seven week run with his
latest offering, Stand Up, at Cape
Town's Baxter Theatre, now coming to Durban for one night!
"The show is about so many things,” Nik
explains, “like the time I went to Canada and heard about a moose eating flowers
in a Shoprite. And the time I went to Israel to play cricket to bring about
world peace (fail), and the other time I babysat our kids for three full hours.
There's a whole lot more, of course, with some of our favourite characters like
Oscar and Julius and Jacob and Helen, all part of this poorly lit, insane
reality TV series we call South Africa. Join me as I take the Pistorius out of
almost everything."
