(“Abstract
Collage 21” by Ingrid Adams. Ink stick, ink and handmade mulberry and rice
paper collage on Waterford acid free mount)
Running in the In the
Front Room and Corridor areas of artSPACE durban is an exhibition by
Ingrid Adams titled SUMI-E.
Adams' work is rooted in the technique and
process of SUMI-E. Her work begins with the experience and sensation of the
scene. The subject matter is of movement in qigong practice, portraits, and
land, using chance, mark and washes. The medium here is ink stick on mulberry,
rice and Waterford paper. The second section is mainly abstracts, the colours inspired
by meditative visions.
Through process and evolvement, she aims to
create sensations of form, movement and texture using natural weaves: cotton,
silk, jute and linen, which she has dyed and painted, to create collages, together
with embroidery and fibres.
SUMI-E
runs at artSPACE durban
