(Everett Duarte,
Izidro Duarte & Frances Schandera-Duarte)
An exhibition titled Icons
and Elephants has just opened at Riverbend Art Gallery on the lower South Coast,
featuring new paintings by Izidro Duarte and Mpenja.
The
three Duarte artists join together in this exhibition which is a current
collection of smaller pieces.
Izidro
Duarte is exhibiting an innovative collection of small semi-relief collages
with a play on humorous analogies concerning mythological and biblical
characters. Alongside this, he shows a few narrative sculptures and large
figurative works.
Mpenja -
artist couple (Everett and Frances Duarte) have found a way to express the
Africa of today in a contemporary manner. Travelling and painting together,
they comment from two perspectives on the same subject. Their observation of
the African environment and the African people, with its bounty of beauty,
colour and texture feeds their inspiration.
Icons and Elephants runs at Riverbend
Art Gallery until April 22 before it moves on to Masa Square in Gaborone in
May.
Riverbend Art Gallery is situated at the Riverbend Crocodile
Farm, Old Main Road, Southbroom. For more information email everett.duarte@gmail.com
