The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will
present Durban based Mozambican bassist Ildo Nandja on May 14. He is a regular
to the stage at the Centre through his collaborations with various local and
international performers. He is also a current student of Masters in Jazz
Performance at UKZN.
Ildo’s band features Shemual Mahabeer
(piano), Sbu Zondi (drums), Dr Salim Washington (sax) and George Mari
(trumpet).
The repertoire will showcase an exclusive
selection of recent compositions which combine Ildo’s mastery of the double
bass with his vocal abilities. The arrangements derive inspiration from
traditional Mozambican and African music as well as jazz, Latin and
contemporary styles. Ildo will explore these genres with his own unique and
harmonious flair. Expect a night of beautiful pan-African music and rhythm.
The concert takes place on May 14 at the Centre
for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) ,Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard
College Campus . Doors open at 17h30 and music starts at 18h00. Entry fee R40 (R20
pensioners and R15 students).
