Steve
Hofmeyr will perform
two shows at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway on May 23 and 24. After four sold
out shows at the venue last year, this iconic Afrikaans signer will return to
perform his greatest hits based on his latest 42-track album, 25 Jaar Se Beste.
Released
in November 2012, Hofmeyr’s two-disc greatest hits album has made the country
sit up with memories rekindled, thanks to great original songwriting and
melodies that only he can deliver. Many of his songs have become part of the
rich and varied landscape of Afrikaans and English pop culture ever since his
music career began back in 1987.
A drama
graduate, successfully published author, television personality, actor and
social media commentator, Hofmeyr has always been fiercely focused on telling
stories, through music, that talk to those culturally curious, or simply
looking to tap their way through three-and-a-half-minutes worth of fun. “We
fragment the moment,” he says. “My songs show something of the dynamic of
Afrikaans, and the beauty of culture is that it cannot be regulated.”
Durban
audiences can expect to hear his biggest hits, including Laaste Lag, Agter Elke Man, Ek Ken Jou Soms, Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou, Die
Bloubul, Pampoen, FM Stereo and Juliet.
