(Stefan
Hofmeyr, "Flowering Thoughts", mixed media on canvas)
artSPACE durban will present Kárriktər, an exhibition by Stéfan
Hofmeyr and Lothar Böttcher which opens in the Main Gallery on June 30
Kárriktər (phonetic for character) is the title of Stéfan Hofmeyr’s and Lothar
Böttcher’s first exhibition at artSPACE durban. The word refers to the mental
and moral qualities of a person (the portraits of the people Hofmeyr paints) as
well as how people display their own characters.
“Those imperfections that are beautiful and
unique to a person or object, these are the things that inspire our lives and
our art. We would much rather invest time in someone living an extraordinary
life than someone who has a perfectly balanced life with everything in
congruence,” explains Hofmeyr. “Together with a friend and fellow artist,
Lothar Böttcher, we explore 'character' and will present our findings in the
form of art in our various media: on doors, cargo palettes, and other up-cycled
material.”
Kárriktər
opens on June 30
at 18h30 and runs until July 5. There will be another 'opening' for this
show on July 2 at 18h30.
artSPACE durban is situated at 3 Millar Road (off Umgeni Road) close to the Waste Centre.
