Hollywood
is known for its “feel-good” films and it seems that some of this splendour has
rubbed off on Leading Lady. A primary highlight was the world première
of the film at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) on June 7 and 8;
not to mention that talented South African artist, Matthew Mole, performed live at this event.
From the
director of Fanie Fourie’s Lobola (Henk Pretorius), winner of the SIFF
2013 Golden Space Needle Award for Best Film, comes this inspiring tale of
an aspiring English actress (Jodi Rutherford) who persuades a South African
farmer from Brandfort (Kobus Willemse) to prepare her for a role in a major
film as an Afrikaner war heroine in a Hollywood film. The cast includes Katie
McGrath (Dracula, Merlin), Hollywood hunk Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal,
Shawshank Redemption), singer/actor Bok van Blerk, as well as a quirky
performance by the legendary Brümilda van Rensburg.

boast a bit about the Leading Lady cast: singer/actor Bok van Blerk’s
latest album, Steek die Vure Aan, has outperformed all expectations,”
report the producers, Dark Matter Studios. “Hollywood hunk Gil Bellows has
added to his 80 plus television/film credits by recently sharing the silver
screen with Susan Sarandon and Donald Sutherland. Brümilda van Rensburg has
returned to South African TV screens in Binnelanders as Jana du Preez.
Yet, the biggest news is that our own “leading lady”, Katie McGrath has just
been cast for a role in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic World! With her Merlin
and Dracula fan-mail already streaming in, we have suggested that she
expand her post-box facilities before the world première of Leading
Lady.”
Leading
Lady is produced
by Dark Matter Studios’ Llewelynn Greeff and Henk Pretorius. The film is
distributed in South Africa by Ster Kinekor Entertainment and will hit the
local movie circuit on November 28, 2014.
